Hi Jon here from Planet Kambo,
In this video I would like to give you a technical insight into how to actually apply kambo to somebody. Something that we also cover in our Kambo training course.
So there's two main ways to apply kambo, there's the standard method and there's the progressive:
The Standard Method
The standard method is the traditional way that the indigenous tribes use the medicine. You make a series of burns on the skin as you know, and then you'll put all of the kambo on in one go, so you apply the points one at a time, but you won't wait in between, you put all the medicine on within 30 seconds to 1 minute.
This is a very strong, masculine way to take kambo, it comes on very quickly, it's very intense and it usually results in quite an explosive purge.
The Progressive Method
The other way to use kambo is the progressive method. This is where you apply the medicine one point or maybe one or two points at a time and what this does is it allows somebody to move through the medicine more slowly.
This is what we use at Planet Kambo when you're treating somebody who’s never taken kambo before and why this is good is:
a) because it doesn't overwhelm them because obviously kambo is quite a strong process and it can be very overwhelming especially the first time you take it, so by going through the process slowly it's less overwhelming and
b) the second reason is when somebody hasn't taken kambo before we have no idea how much kambo they need.
Everybody is completely different, sometimes people need two points other times people need 10 points, there's no way to know so what we'll do is for a woman we’ll make 3 burns and for a man we’ll make 5 because usually men need slightly more medicine than women but then on those burns we’ll apply the medicine slowly.
So we’ll apply one point and then we'll see how the person reacts see how strong it is for them and then based on how they take that first point we’ll decide how we're going to proceed.
So the progressive method of using kambo is a more feminine way to use it. Ideally it’s used in situations where either it's somebody's first time as I just said or if there's some other thing that you are unsure about, maybe the person has some kind of health condition or they’re on a particular medication and just to be absolutely safe you want to give them the medicine slowly so as not to overwhelm them and then if anything did happen you can take the medicine off really quickly.
So there you have it, you have the two methods, you have the standard application which is the traditional way to take the medicine, it’s the masculine way to take the medicine, it comes on very quickly it's very intense and then you have the progressive more feminine way to take the medicine where you apply the points slowly and allow someone to move more slowly through the process.
Now standard application is over much quicker, it's more intense, but it's usually over much quicker, it's the way I like to do it when I do kambo on myself. My process is usually over within 20-25 minutes. When you use the progressive method it can drag it out a bit and the process will take a bit longer, maybe 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the person. So that's the two types of application.
